Verdemar is a lovingly restored family retreat born in 1989. It’s located among old cork oaks on the gentle slopes above Cercal do Alentejo and just 25 minutes from Milfontes and Porto Covo.
Each guest room has a unique character and opens onto a terrace or garden, offering calm and cosy privacy. Here you can expect lazy comfort: a dip in the pool after surfing, a game’s night or curling up with a book from the library…
Beyond the gates, the countryside surroundings open into olive groves, rice fields, coastal trails and marble‑stone villages. There’s plenty of Alentejo landscapes to explore before or after a surf session!

At Verdemar, Tomás and Duarte cook the way people used to: with time, care and whatever’s fresh from the garden or the local market. Some nights it’s slow-roasted meat. Other times, a veggie dish with ingredients dictated by the season. Always thoughtful. Always inspired by local tradition and flavours that celebrate the Alentejo’s culinary soul.
In this farmhouse all meals are shared.
Sometimes on the terrace under the stars. Other times by the fire with a glass of Portuguese wine. There’s conversation, laughter and that feeling of being exactly where you’re meant to be.
Is this surf camp appropriate for a beginner?
Absolutely! Our instructors take time with each student, offering coaching and encouragement, free of pressure. You’ll learn at your own pace and with the right support.
Can I join solo?
Definitely. Many guests come on their own and often leave with a bunch of new friends. The energy is relaxing, inclusive and easy to feel part of.
What if I have any food restrictions or allergies?
No worries at all. Verdemar’s kitchen is flexible and welcoming. After booking, we’ll send you a form where you can let us know about any dietary needs.
What airport should I fly to?
You can fly into Lisbon or Faro. Both airports are around 1.5 to 2 hours away from the Verdemar by car. We offer an optional shuttle from Lisbon airport for 75 € per person.
How do I get to Verdemar
You can take a public bus (Rede Expresso or Flixbus), train, rent a car, grab a taxi or book a direct transfer with us from Lisbon for 75 €/person (one way). Send us a message if you have any questions.
Should I bring my wetsuit?
It’s totally up to you! Surf gear (wetsuit and board) is included in the experience. But if you’ve got a favourite wetsuit, feel free to bring it!
Does the Alentejo region have good surf?
Yes! Praia do Malhão and Praia das Furnas offer clean, consistent and fun waves, perfect for beginners and intermediates. There’s plenty of space to learn without the crowds and just the right amount of thrill in the line-up.
Should I pay in advance to save my spot?
Yes, a 50% deposit confirms your place. The remaining 50% is paid upon arrival at the surf camp or SurfMilfontes shop. Fill in our booking form to make a pre-reservation and we will get in touch with all the details.
What is your cancellation policy?
Life happens, we get it… You can cancel up to 1 month before the camp starts and get your deposit back, no stress. After that the deposit is non-refundable.
